The Houston Independent School District Police Department will be hosting its annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in conjunction with the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). The nonprofit organization, which is in its 31st year serving local communities, is dedicated to the development and promotion of organized law enforcement affiliated crime- and drug-prevention programs.
National Night Out heightens crime and drug awareness to increase community participation in local anti-crime programs. The annual event aims to strengthen police and community relationships, and helps send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and will fight back for their community.
More than 20 businesses and volunteers will be in attendance during HISD’s National Night Out to pass out safety and health information, including those from HISD Dropout Recovery, HISD PD K-9, HISD Transportation, Houston Fire Department, U.S. Army, Home Depot, Texas Children’s Hospital, American Red Cross. Local radio station 97.9 The Box will kick off the festivitieswithDJ Lumbre. Free food and drinks, clowns, mascots and a moonwalk from Froggy Jumps will also be on hand.
