Social studies teacher Laura Baumgart had never used an online teaching and learning platform in her daily instruction before coming to work at HISD this school year. Now, the Austin High School educator is actively using the PowerUp:HUB, HISD’s digital platform, in her everyday instruction.
Baumgart says she latched on to the new tool pretty quickly and is using it to maximize instructional time and improve the workflow in her classroom.
“I use it for almost everything,” said Baumgart. “I put up notes. I can put up links to video clips. I put their assignments on there, handouts. I am not taking time passing stuff out. They come in, they get out their laptops, and they log into the HUB.” Austin is one of 48 pilot schools using the HUB this school year to personalize instruction for students. During the 2015–2016 school year, all schools and students will have access to the online platform.
