During the 2014–2015 school year, teachers from 48 HISD elementary, middle, and high school had access to the HUB and its various features, which allowed them to integrate technology into content development and classroom instructional practices. Students in the pilot schools were able to use the HUB to complete and turn in assignments, take quizzes, and participate in classroom discussions.
The IMS Global Learning Impact Awards Program recognizes the use of technology by organizations and institutions from around the world to achieve learning impact. HISD and itslearning, which teamed up with the district in 2014 to launch the teaching and learning platform, both received a silver medal for the creation, implementation, and planned expansion of the HUB.
HISD is rolling out the HUB to all 283 campuses during the 2015–2016 school year. Full districtwide implementation will allow all HISD teachers and students to log on to the HUB from any device with Internet access and to use the platform as a central location to collaborate, communicate, and access educational information, resources, and tools.
