Houston Independent School District schools and offices will be closed Tuesday, April 19 as a precautionary measure due to the impact of recent flooding on regional mobility.
HISD officials have been closely monitoring the weather forecast and have considered the safety and security of district families and staff, many of whom travel from various areas of the Greater Houston community to serve our students. As a result, all HISD schools and district administrative offices will be closed Tuesday as a precautionary measure. All district events — including professional development and recruiting sessions — also will be cancelled.
Schools and offices are expected to reopen at their regularly scheduled time on Wednesday, April 20. Should that change due to deteriorating weather conditions, we will notify you.
HISD schools and district offices also were closed Monday due to the storms. The district’s designated inclement weather make-up days are Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27. On Monday, the district opened up Johnston and M.C. Williams middle schools as emergency shelters to assist families affected by the storms that resulted in heavy flooding throughout the city.
