The Allstate Foundation has donated $400,000 to replace books in school libraries at four schools severely affected by Hurricane Harvey – Braeburn, Hilliard, Mitchell, and Scarborough elementary schools – as part of its “Rebuilding Our Readers” effort.
Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan and Board of Education President Rhonda Skillern-Jones will join Allstate Texas Field Senior Vice President Larry Sedillo, Allstate executives, and local Allstate agency owners on Friday to accept the donation and book delivery, and take part in a library tour on the campus of the relocated Scarborough Elementary School.
“We’re committed to helping Texas communities recover from this disaster, which is why we are honored to be a part of this effort to replenish Houston ISD libraries with new books to replace those lost during Harvey,” said Sedillo.
Following the tour, local Allstate agency owners will participate in volunteer activities at the school, including a Lunch and Learn reading activity for National Tell a Story Day.
