Chavez High School to host College Camp Houston series

If preparing for college has you feeling overwhelmed, this weekend’s College Camp Houston may help you navigate through all of the decisions. Preparing for college, paying for tuition and researching financial aid are a few of the topics that will be covered at Chavez High School from 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 1.

The day-long, free event is in partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Wells Fargo, and will feature mentoring sessions for participants, advice on how to research financial aid, guidance on how to apply for scholarships, and a variety of opportunities middle and high school students and their parents to get their questions answered by experts.

“This partnership enables HSF to provide the necessary resources students and their families need to navigate everything from understanding academic requirements, college applications, campus life, and how to pay for college,” said Fidel Vargas, president and CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

The program includes intensive bilingual workshops and breakout panel sessions to assist students and their parents. Lunch is provided and a number of giveaways are planned at the end of the day, including an iPad mini.

The College Camp Series is part of a nationwide collaboration between Wells Fargo and HSF, which includes a commitment of $8.1 million over the next three years to help middle school, high school and college students achieve academic success.

The College Camp series kicked off Nov. 23, 2013 at California State University, Los Angeles and will conclude in Dallas on March 22, 2014.
