Patterson Literature Magnet Elementary School participated in a nationwide effort to Read the Most Coast to Coast on Friday, Feb. 27. They joined hundreds of thousands of students in Renaissance Learning’s celebration that encourages students to read as much as they can.

“Read the Most Coast to Coast” celebrates students as they read books and then complete an Accelerated Reader^™ quiz after each book they finish.

‘‘Read the Most Coast to Coast is a fun-filled event that enables our students to join with others across the nation in a shared challenge, all while engaging in valuable reading practice,’’ said Literature Lab Teacher Deborah Coats. ‘‘They were so excited to contribute to the national book count and to see the totals tracked in real time on Renaissance Learning’s website.’’

Renaissance Learning’s Accelerated Reader, the nation’s most widely used reading management program for K-12 schools, helps educators generate excitement for reading and monitor students’ personalized reading practice. Students read a book at the appropriate level and then take a quiz to show they understood what they have read. The web-based program provides access to more than 160,000 quizzes, enabling students to choose from a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books.
