During a special meeting Tuesday, the Houston Independent School District Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint attorney Myrna Guidry as the new trustee for District IX to fulfill the unexpired term of Wanda Adams.
Guidry was sworn in on Thursday at noon before the regular board meeting.
“I am grateful and happy to have this opportunity to serve the district by working to build up our students’ potential and do whatever I can to contribute to their ultimate success,” Guidry said.
Guidry was selected from among eight candidates who applied after Adams resigned in November to serve as a Harris County Justice of the Peace. The term expires December 31, 2021.
Guidry has been a Houston attorney for the past 20 years and is an adjunct professor at Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She is a graduate of South Texas College of Law Houston and has also worked as a certified mediator. Guidry received her undergraduate degree from Tulane University.
“I welcome Ms. Guidry to our ‘Team of Ten’ and look forward to the expertise, dedication, earnestness and commitment that she will bring to the board,” HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan said.
Guidry joins Elizabeth Santos (District I), Kathy Blueford-Daniels (District II), Daniela “Dani” Hernandez (District III), Patricia K. Allen (District IV), President Sue Deigaard (District V), Holly Maria Flynn Vilaseca (District VI), Annie Sung (District VII), and Judith Cruz (District VIII) on the nine-member board.
