Three-day conference shining spotlight on Montessori schools

Did you know that HISD has three Montessori schools?

Developed by Maria Montessori in the late 1800’s, this model of education is based on the premise that children are naturally curious and driven to learn about their world. Its hallmarks are classrooms that serve students of different ages (usually a three-year range) and self-directed activities that enable children to learn at their own pace until they master a particular subject or concept.

The Montessori method’s place in public education is the topic of a three-day conference that is currently underway at Garden Oaks Elementary School.
