HISD Would Welcome North Forest ISD Students
On Thursday, Texas Commissioner of Education Michael Williams notified me of his recommendation to close the North Forest Independent School District and annex it to HISD. While North Forest ISD is entitled to appeal the decision, I want the families of North Forest ISD to know that we would welcome them to HISD and would do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition.
Lines on a map may have separated our two districts, but students who grow up on the northeast side and attend North Forest schools are a lot like the neighborhood children who attend HISD schools. Every one of those children is important. Every one of them deserves a rigorous education in a safe school. That’s what we are working tirelessly to provide— for every child – no matter their ZIP code or street address.
HISD did not ask for this plan, but we are ready to abide by the commissioner’s ruling and work with the North Forest community.
