The country is buzzing over Houston ISD winning its second Broad Prize — and we couldn’t be happier for our students! Take a look at some of the stories from local and national media outlets, as well as the kind tweets we’ve received.
• U.S. News and World Report highlighted the district’s 12-point increase in graduation rates, and how the achievement gap between low-income and affluent students was slashed.
• The Houston Chronicle reported that HISD stood out to the Broad Foundation for several reasons, including the district’s high percentage of minority students taking the SAT college entrance test, and more students taking Advanced Placement courses and exams.
• Education Week said the district’s ability to increase its graduation rate faster than any other school district led to the win.
• KUHF-FM reminded readers that districts cannot apply for the prize, they are picked.
