The country is buzzing over Houston ISD winning its second Broad Prize — and we couldn’t be happier for our students! Take a look at some of the stories from local and national media outlets, as well as the kind tweets we’ve received.
• U.S. News and World Report highlighted the district’s 12-point increase in graduation rates, and how the achievement gap between low-income and affluent students was slashed.
• The Houston Chronicle reported that HISD stood out to the Broad Foundation for several reasons, including the district’s high percentage of minority students taking the SAT college entrance test, and more students taking Advanced Placement courses and exams.
• Education Week said the district’s ability to increase its graduation rate faster than any other school district led to the win.
• KUHF-FM reminded readers that districts cannot apply for the prize, they are picked.
We’ve received many congratulatory messages, and we are extremely appreciative for the outpouring of support. Take a look at what’s being said about us on Twitter:
This is an outstanding accomplishment for our school district and the body of work that we have done together. I am very proud of the leadership team and the strategic professional development opportunities that have transformed us into powerful change agents for 21st century education.
