Parents who want their children to attend one of HISD’s magnet programs for the 2014-2015 academic year need to submit their applications before the holidays. The deadline to apply, either online or through the paper application, is December 20 for guaranteed consideration in the first round. Applications received after this date can only be considered at schools in which there is still space available.
“This year parents can even apply from the comfort of their homes using our newly adopted online application option,” HISD Assistant Superintendent of School Choice Dave Wheat said. “To date, more than 27,000 applications have been submitted using our new online option, and thousands more are in progress.”
Whether it’s through the new online option or the paper application, parents are urged to review their applications thoroughly to ensure all the information is accurate before submitting.
- If parents are submitting the application online, they are required to submit the supporting documents to the primary school selected by December 20.
- If parents are submitting a paper application, the supporting documents are still due on December 20. However, they must adhere to the instructions listed on the paper application on how to properly submit the supporting documents.
“Anytime parents have questions, we encourage them to contact the Office of School Choice or visit the nearest magnet school,” said Wheat. “The magnet coordinators at each campus are prepared to assist parents with any questions they may have during this process.”
HISD’s magnet coordinators also have computers available for parents who do not have access to one at home.
March 28, 2014 is parent notification day which means applicants will be provided detailed information on the status of each application they submitted. The deadline to select a school to attend during the 2014-2015 school year is April 11, 2014.
