Marshall Middle School got students pumped for their upcoming STAAR tests in an unusual way – they spent an entire night at the school.
The school’s fourth annual lock-in began at 4 p.m. Friday and lasted until 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Students worked hard in STAAR prep tutorials throughout the event, but they also had some “fun” time. They enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs, participated in a talent show, watched a movie and had a pajama jimmy-jam. They also got a special visit from Jay Barnett, a former NFL player. He gave the students a motivational talk about the importance of education.
A highlight of the event was when students were allowed to throw a pie at one of the administrators. They held a fundraiser that determined the target, who ended up being Principal Michael Harrison. The money raised will go toward end-of school activities for eighth-grade students.
