“Our folks have been working hard over the summer, getting everything ready for the start of school, so we wanted to take some time before all the students come back to say thanks and to acknowledge this group for their important contributions,” Busby said.
More than 1,000 CFS employees turned out for the event and enjoyed the opportunity to visit with colleagues and learn about the vision and priorities for the department. They were also given a survey form requesting feedback to aid managers in their efforts to improve the workplace culture and develop strategic plans.
This is the first event of its kind for this group of employees, but not the last. “Showing appreciation is going to be an important part of our culture going forward,” Busby said.
In addition to recognizing retiring employees, several employees also were singled out for outstanding performance and presented with gift cards for their efforts. Trustee Adams presented the cards and was happy to be a part of the event.
“HISD has the best employees, and I am committed to being the best support I can be to them,” Adams said. “I have been out to a lot of schools recently, and they look great, thanks to these employees here today.”
The Facilities and Operations managers are working hard to motivate employees and communicate a clear vision.
The message was well received by employees, who left with spirits high and eager to start a new school year. “I see a lot of smiles here today,” said Wretha Thomas, president of Houston Educational Support Personnel Local 6315. “This was very positive and a great boost for employees to start a new year.”
