The Houston Independent School District will expand the health sciences career program at Jane Long Academy through a partnership with Walgreens for the school’s Futures Academy of Pharmacy Technology. The partnership will be announced during a press conference on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m.
“The collaboration will connect core curriculum with real-world career experiences and emphasize the importance of educating and preparing students to be a well-trained workforce that will be successful in a 21st century global economy,” said Michael Love, the assistant superintendent of the Futures Academy, which provides high school students the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree and receive career training in high-demand fields.
About 200 Long students in the pharmacy technology academy will have access to field experiences, facility tours, job shadowing, internships, mentoring and training from Walgreens team members. Students will also have exposure to Walgreens products and programs.
