Cadence McShane Construction held a pre-bid meeting Wednesday for companies interested in working on the new building for the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA).
More than 60 potential subcontractors attended the event to hear an overview of the bid package, requirements, timelines, and tips for completing successful bids.
“This is a tricky project. It’s a downtown environment with a tight workspace, and it’s not for everybody,” said Bob Bedrich, Cadence McShane vice president. “But challenges bring opportunity, and there are significant advantages for those willing to stick with it.”
Located in downtown Houston, in close proximity to the Theater District, the new $80 million facility will feature an 800-seat main theater with a balcony, dance and music studios, and art galleries. The 168,000-square-foot five-level building will also include a modern outdoor dining area, an outdoor roof terrace and underground parking.
“This is a very special project,” Bedrich said. “It will look like a showplace when it’s finished, and it is an honor to be a part of it.”
Project plans for bidders are available through www.isqft.com and www.construction.com. All bids must be received by Cadence McShane by Feb. 3, 2015, at 2 p.m. Late bids will not be accepted. Questions may be submitted through January 26 via email: bbedrich@cadencemcshane.com.
Minority- and women-owned business enterprises (M/WBEs) are encouraged to bid. HISD’s participation goal levels are 20 percent for purchasing and construction and 25 percent for professional services. HISD’s total combined commitment made by all design firms in the 2012 bond program is expected to top more than 53 percent participation by M/WBE firms.
