Students from Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy and Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy won the National Society of Black Engineers’ inaugural National VEX Robotics Championship this past weekend in Anaheim, California.

The coed team, which calls themselves the Roses and Knights, won the Tournament Champions Award by going undefeated through nine rounds of head-to-head competition followed by three finals rounds. The five girls and four boys also won the Excellence Award for the best overall robot design and performance.
The team will represent the National Society of Black Engineers at the World VEX Robotics Championship in April in Louisville, Kentucky.
