The 2016-2017 school year is around the corner, and HISD’s Family and Community Engagement department is hiring parent tutors for their Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program.
HIPPY parent tutors work on a part-time basis requiring a commitment of 30 hours a week. The position pays $10 an hour, plus benefits and provides training and ongoing support. Working with HISD as a HIPPY home instructors can provide you with other benefits such as:
- Ability to receive AmeriCorps funding for higher education purposes
- Professional work experience
- Possibility to pursue further employment within HISD
- Personal satisfaction from training parents to help their children succeed in school
HIPPY is a school readiness program that helps parents of children between the ages of 3 and 5 years-old prepare their preschoolers for academic success. Instructors will be tasked with visiting parents in their homes for an hour a week over a 30-week period during the school year, and model research-based learning activities designed to help Pre-K children develop skills in reading, math, and science.
