HISD Read to Succeed competition encourages reading through myON platform

HISD is inviting all elementary campuses to participate in the district’s first-ever Read to Succeed Competition beginning Monday, Sept. 10 to Thursday, Jan. 31.

This competition is an opportunity for all pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students to compete against each other to see who can read myON books for the most number of minutes.

Students can choose any e-book available through the myON reading platform to read.

The HISD Read to Succeed competition was created to:

  • Motivate and reward students for voluminous reading
  • Increase time students are engaged in reading
  • Increase reading stamina
  • Increase access and use of the myON reading platform

Each participating campus should choose a designated “Read to Succeed coordinator” to help promote the competition, encourage staff to participate, coordinate trainings opportunities, run campus-based reports and coordinate campus-level recognition awards.

For geographic area and district-level recognition, HISD’s Library Services and Elementary Curriculum and Development will coordinate the promotion of the competition and reading reports to determine winners, awards and recognition events.

For more details on the competition and awarded prizes, please review the Read to succeed flyer below.
