HISD’s School Choice application is now closed for the 2023-2024 school year, but families can enroll in the district year-round.
“As a district of choice, HISD provides endless opportunities for all students regardless of socioeconomic status or location,” said Student Enrollment Manager Miranda Perez. “From our neighborhood schools to our many magnet programs offered, students get to decide their path preparing them for successful college and career experiences.”
Families new to the district can enroll at their zoned school by completing an online form or visiting the campus where a staff member can assist with the enrollment and registration process. To find your child’s zoned neighborhood school, visit www.HoustonISD.org/SchoolFinder.
Families looking to apply to a school outside of their neighborhood can do so while seats are still available through the Office of School Choice. HISD offers a wide variety of unique educational opportunities including Magnet, Vanguard, Dual Language, International Baccalaureate, Career and Technical Education, Fine Arts, and more. Additionally, the Enrollment department recently unveiled the district’s first Mobile Enrollment Unit, also known as the E-Unit, intended to make signing up for school more accessible by meeting families in their communities, at local businesses, and at events. The E-unit is equipped with high-tech enrollment stations and Wi-Fi for families to use and is staffed with friendly, helpful enrollment experts on board to assist with the enrollment process.
This summer, the E-unit will hit the streets to help families enroll. Check back here for schedule updates:
Thursday, June 15
12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Families returning to HISD will be able to complete Returning Student Verification forms via their HISD Connect Parent Portal account beginning the first day of school, August 28, 2023. The online application allows parents to verify their home address, phone number, and email address, complete annual forms, and add/update emergency contacts. As a reminder, the Parent Portal Account can be used to keep track of student attendance, grades, class schedule, and more.
