Bellaire High School’s eMotion Dance Company took home the title at the Crowd Pleasers National Showcase of Champions at the Berry Center in northwest Harris County on March 22.
The team, which has a total of 35 male and female dancers, won the national title and choreography award in the hip-hop category. Bellaire HS dance teacher Sanja Korman said senior Pierre Phillips created the choreography.
The eMotion Dance Company also won first place and the choreography award in the open category with a fusion routine featuring modern dance and hip-hop. The team took home the first runner-up award in the open category with a break dancing performance.
In addition, the team won the outstanding dance technique award.
All the wins led the group to a Team Elite Circle Award, which is only given when routines score higher than 95 out of 100. The Bellaire team’s average score was 96.557.
