Satterfield & Pontikes this week held a pre-bid conference for sub-contractors interested in submitting proposals to work on building projects at Waltrip and Lee High Schools. The construction firm is the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the two schools and hosted the standing-room-only meeting to provide an opportunity for contractors to hear an overview of the projects and ask questions before submitting bids.
“We’re really pleased with the turnout,” said David Webb, Satterfield and Pontikes’ chief estimator. “We want to take as many bids as possible back to the district.”
Contractors were encouraged to schedule follow-up meetings, submit emails, and walk the sites if necessary to ensure that all their questions were answered and that they had all information needed to bid on the jobs.
“We want you to bid on this project, so we’re going to help you in every way we can,” Webb told the contractors. “We also want you to be competitive, so please give us your best price.”
As part of HISD’s current bond program, Waltrip High School is receiving general renovations and a partial building expansion for a net increase of about 39,000 square-feet. Lee High School will receive a new two-story 240,000-square-foot building.

Both schools will feature 21st century learning environments with significant technology upgrades. Construction is expected to start in the third quarter of this year.
