Campus and district leaders are getting ready for the start of the new school year by sharing best practices and learning some new ways to help students succeed.

The Professional Learning Series 2015 was held at NRG Park in early August, and Sessions were designed to connect HISD’s leader competencies with Global Graduate competencies, as well as the district’s core initiatives of Global Education/Dual Language, Linked Learning, Literacy By 3, and PowerUp.

“There’s a foundation, a core, that has to be consistent across the district so that no matter where leadership walks into, they can see some of the consistent practices that are being embedded,” said Richard Barajas, a principal mentor. “These aren’t any practices we use for the sake of using them. These are research-based practices that have proven to show results in the classroom.”

“It’s powerful because we can always learn,” said Rob Gasparello, principal of Sharpstown High School. “No matter how many years we’ve been in this, it’s (about) constantly getting better every day, and that’s important. We’ve got to look at ourselves as learners.”
