HISD community partner Kroger helps 48 HISD schools
School children always look forward to Fridays, but the students at Windsor Village Elementary School had an exceptional Friday on Sept. 4, when they received some much-needed school supplies. Kroger, a valued HISD community partner, donated the supplies to the school, which was one of 48 HISD schools chosen as beneficiaries this year.
The excited students were very grateful for the generosity of Kroger and its customers. “I’m happy because Kroger came and gave school supplies for the class,” said Windsor Village ES student Tony Ned. “I thank them for the ruler, the yellow folder, and the crayons, and the notebook paper, and the markers.”
With the support of local media and business partners, Kroger stores raised more than $280,000 over a 19-day period to fund the donation. During the collection drive, shoppers could donate a pre-packaged supply kit for $7 or give $1 via a scan card at check-out. The donation will help 40,000 Houston-area school children get the supplies they need to start the school year off right.
Student Ryan Bertrand added, “I feel good because Kroger gave us a lot of school supplies that we need for school.”
