The grant was delivered to the school on Oct. 14 in the form of instruments and other music resources as a part of the organization’s 2015–2016 Action for the Arts program.
“Participation in music programs helps youth develop transferable life skills such as diligence, focus, and critical thinking,” said Music Forward Executive Director Marjorie Gilberg. “Action for the Arts ensures thousands more young people will benefit from learning and playing music.”
“Community funding resources for music programming for these kids are few and far between,” added Deady Middle School Band Director Robert Chadwick. “Deady’s music program faces the challenge of providing music instruction to 230 students, with only enough band instruments to serve 150 students. This grant from Music Forward will alleviate some of the challenges we face on several levels, providing opportunities for nearly all the students to have access to music instruction.”
“The opportunity to partner with Music Forward, give back to Houston students, and help develop the artists of tomorrow taps into what House of Blues is all about,” said House of Blues Houston General Manager Will Hodgson. “Music can capture a moment, create a mood, inspire creativity, and bring individuals of all backgrounds together. We see firsthand the positive impact it has on our community.”
Music Forward’s 2015–2016 Action for the Arts grants program awarded $225,000 to 62 schools and organizations reaching underserved youth in communities nationwide. Additional schools and organizations in the Houston area receiving Action for the Arts grants include Chávez High School and Young Audiences of Houston.
