The Houston Independent School District Board of Education on Thursday is expected to consider a construction contract for Eastwood Academy, which is being rebuilt as part of the 2012 Bond Program.
The contract calls for a new addition for the small college preparatory school just southeast of downtown Houston. The new facility will incorporate an existing, newly built two-story classroom wing and accommodate 500 students.
In November 2015, HISD terminated negotiations with Eastwood’s construction manager-at-risk, deciding to instead seek competitive sealed proposals.
Patriot Contracting was one of three firms to submit a bid in response to the request for competitive sealed proposals. The Patriot proposal includes a base bid of $10.4 million and a construction contingency of $273,000, meaning the total cost would not exceed $10.7 million.
The HISD Board of Education will consider the contract on Thursday during their regular monthly meeting. If approved, work at Eastwood could begin as early as this summer, with the new school scheduled to open for the 2017-2018 school year.
The board’s regular monthly meeting begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016, in the board auditorium of the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center, 4400 W. 18th Street. Click here to view the full agenda. The board meeting will be broadcast live online at www.hisdtv.org.
