HISD Chief of Human Resources Julia Dimmitt and Area Superintendent James McSwain on Tuesday surprised Revere Middle School Athletic Director Celina Robinson as the Sterling McCall VIP Services Teacher of the Month for April.
“As a first-year principal, it has truly been rewarding to work alongside Celina and have complete trust in her capabilities on campus,” Principal Monijit Katial said. “She has made my transition into the role nearly seamless as I have a point person on campus that I can trust and depend on.”
Robinson, a trusted ally for many across the campus, is approaching her 10th year as an HISD employee and has served as an English, Special Education, and PE teacher. An alumni of Revere Middle School, she connects with students, providing a level of social and emotional support that improves outcomes at the campus.
“It is humbling and exciting to watch the students transform and go onto the next chapter in their lives but still remember me and how I supported them during their time here at Revere,” Robinson said. “I had a challenging upbringing and understand what it means to be able to change the direction of your journey and still go on to do great things.”
While students continue to test for the next two weeks, Robinson will get to arrive in style at the campus in a 2019 Toyota Avalon, courtesy of Sterling McCall Toyota.
“We are excited to recognize Ms. Robinson today as April’s Teacher of the Month,” Dimmitt said. “She goes over and beyond her role here at Revere to ensure procedures are followed fluidly at the campus.”
As part of the Teacher of the Month program, HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan and district leaders, along with a rep from Sterling McCall VIP Services, surprise a teacher each month. The teacher is presented with an award, a gift basket of promotional items, a $150 gift card, and a luxury loaner vehicle.
Each of the seven HISD area superintendents are responsible for selecting a teacher from their region to be honored from October 2018 to May 2019. Principals who would like to nominate a teacher on their campus should contact their school support officer or area superintendent directly.
