The Houston Independent School District is celebrating school bus drivers this week as part of School Bus Driver Appreciation Week, which launches Monday, Feb. 8.
HISD bus drivers are tasked with getting students to and from school each day — safely and on time. That’s a critical job. If students can’t get to school, they can’t learn.
“Bus drivers are foundational employees on the front lines of student education,” Transportation Services General Manager John Wilcots IV said. “We appreciate our bus drivers and are pleased to recognize their daily commitment to safety and the extra effort they continue to give in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Since the start of the pandemic, bus drivers have taken on the added responsibility of making sure buses are safe and clean for students. Drivers sanitize the bus daily after each route and complete deep cleaning and disinfection every weekend.
As part of the celebratory week, bus drivers at all four terminals will be treated to take-out lunches throughout the week.
