Nearly two dozen current and former Houston Independent School District coaches and one former NFL player shared their experiences on the field and in the classroom as part of a roundtable discussion last week.
The purpose of the roundtable was to mentor coaches and teachers throughout the district, and foster relationships between staff. The event was held on Thursday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at Delmar Field House.
Former NFL player Richmond Webb shared how influential coaches like Don Shula and Joe Greene helped shape his career.
“Coaches push you. You learn discipline that will help you make it through when things get tough,” said Webb.
As for retired Bellaire High School coach Rocky Manuel, the best advice he could give is to keep it concise. He stuck to that advice when addressing the round table.
“There’s no substitute for hard work,” Manuel said.
