HISD Superintendent Terry Grier and Former HISD Superintendent Dr. Billy Reagan to Deliver Remarks
Community leaders, students, administrators, and staff will join HISD Superintendent Terry Grier, Board of Education Trustee Larry Marshall and former HISD superintendent Dr. Billy Reagan at the official dedication ceremony for the new Billy Reagan K-8 Educational Center on Wednesday, January 16 at 10 a.m. at 4842 Anderson Road.
“Billy Reagan is truly a treasure in this city,” Dr. Grier said. “This campus represents a new beginning for students, parents, and the surrounding community. Accommodating nearly 900 students, this new facility reflects our commitment to ensuring every HISD student gets a quality education.”
The Billy Reagan K-8 Educational Center offers a two-way dual language program to its kindergarten class in an effort to develop full bilingualism and bi-literacy for all students. The goal is to address the global marketplace for a multilingual workforce in the 21st century.
“We are so proud to be an important institution of learning for the students in the surrounding neighborhoods,” said Principal Joyce Williams. “We truly are education designed with success in mind.”
With more than 140,000 square feet of learning space, the new school is meeting the needs of children living in southwest Houston.
“This wonderful state-of-the-art facility is going to make a huge impact on the kids who walk these halls,” Trustee Marshall said. “This school was specially designed to create a very positive learning environment that will inspire kids to want to learn and to do their best. I know that we will see some great leaders come from Billy Reagan K-8.”
The facility was made possible thanks to the $805 million bond referendum approved by voters in 2007. Energy efficiency is one of its key features. The school was designed and built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards to help reduce utility costs.
