HISD summer resources and activities for families

HISD and its community partners are offering a variety of resources and activities over the summer break for students and families.

Summer School:

HISD Summer School Programs are critical in the continued support of students at every grade level, fostering the skillsets needed to master academic objectives for the next year. Programs are coordinated at the District level, planned at the campus level, and customized to meet the students’ individual needs. Extended time offered by summer programs provides students with additional opportunities filled with rigorous and relevant accelerated instruction and reinforcement to achieve greatness. Healthy Summer Meals:

Breakfast and lunch are available to kids ages 1-18 at no cost, Monday-Friday, through June 30. For questions, contact your home school or HISD Nutrition Services at 713-491-5944.

Splash Down:

The HISD Athletics Department is offering no-cost water safety lessons for students of all grade levels this summer. Learn more here.

Activities:

Museums for All offers free or reduced admissions to the following museums for those who qualify: The Houston Maritime Education Center and Museum, The Health Museum, Houston Botanic Garden, Children’s Museum Houston, Houston Toy Museum, The Printing Museum, Houston Botanic Garden, the 1940 Air Terminal Museum. The Pizza Hut Camp Book It! Program is a free reading incentive program for pre-K through sixth grade classrooms and parents. Learn more here.

The Houston Rockets and adidas are hosting four Skills Development Camps this summer, where youth basketball players can work in their agility, shooting, dribbling, and footwork with highly trained coaches. Learn more here.

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department provides programming and recreational opportunities for youth ages 4-18. The youth program is available year-round through the department’s Community Centers, with activities such as summer enrichment programming and food services, teen mentoring, academic support, and much more. Telehealth services:

As part of HISD’s new Continuum of Care model for the whole student, no-cost telehealth services will be available for all students this summer. Learn more about Hazel Health and its services here.
