KHOU 11’s New Weekly Segment ‘Our Future’ to Feature Outstanding High School Students

In an effort to showcase some of Houston’s outstanding high school students, KHOU 11 is launching a new weekly segment “Our Future” to air during the 5p.m. newscast.

“We have many talented and dedicated students whose excellence goes beyond the classrooms, and they deserve to be recognized,” HISD Superintendent Terry Grier said.  “We are grateful to KHOU 11 for giving school districts like HISD the opportunity to showcase these students.”

KHOU 11 will be selecting a different high school student every week from a large pool of public school students from across the Houston area, including HISD. The purpose of this segment is to identify and profile young student leaders who can serve as inspiration and role models for others.

“We know there are some great stories to tell about high school students in our area, and that’s what we’re hoping to do here. We’re looking for leaders, innovators—young people who’ve demonstrated great personal initiative at school and in their communities,”KHOU 11 Executive News Director Phil Bruce said. “We want to recognize those who are overcoming obstacles, finding solutions to problems, and making a difference.”

To be considered for this segment, the student must demonstrate great personal initiative, not just in the classroom, but also in their communities.  KHOU 11’s “Our Future” segment will feature students who’ve excelled academically and possess great character and dedication to worthy causes and activities.

To nominate a student from your school, please contact Denisse Cantu at jcantu3@houstonisd.org.  Each HISD high school will be allowed to nominate up to three students each month.
