Yates HS boys basketball team falls short in state championship game

Yates High School’s boys basketball team made it to the district 3A state championship game for the second year in a row, but fell short of the title.

Yates played Dallas’ Madison High School Saturday for the second time, hoping to avenge their loss from the year before. The Lions put up a good fight, but Madison was a little bit stronger and won 80-72.

Yates’ road to the title game wasn’t simple. They played 38-0 Kennedale in the semifinals game and handed the team its only loss of the season.

Yates also competed for the state championship in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. The program won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010.
