Workshop Wednesday this month featured “Being Certified, Brings Success” presented by Kelly Knez, client engagement manager with KellyMitchell, a women-owned IT consulting and staffing company. Attendees received valuable advice and information on the benefits to qualified companies associated with becoming M/WBE certified.
As an award-winning, professional services company, KellyMitchell has embraced the opportunities that come with being M/WBE certified, and encourages other minority-owned business to do the same.
“Going to networking events, being active and getting to know people in these organizations is really helpful,” said Knez. “I go to events all the time, you never know where a lead will come from.”
HISD’s Supplier Diversity department hosts a variety of networking and educational events throughout the year to assist minority-owned companies who are interested in growing their businesses.
“Most certifying organizations hold networking events and can also provide the specific names of corporate contacts who can help you get your foot in the door,” Knez said.
HISD’s Workshop Wednesday is held on the first Wednesday of each month. Topics covered vary and are targeted to provide relevant information and assistance to M/WBEs interested in doing business with the district.
