College readiness event prepares high schoolers for college

If you are a high school senior or junior looking forward to college, don’t miss “Surviving the Yard,” a one-day college readiness event designed to help prepare high school students for their first semester at college. This is the 14th annual installment of the Young Professionals University, which is hosted by Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals.

The program starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, with interactive workshops on academic achievement, health, student organizations, and other activities challenging students to think on their feet and learn from their peers. Students will be able to talk with young professionals who have completed their degrees and are currently working in their chosen profession. By the end of the day, participants will have a better understanding of how to manage college responsibilities and be a successful student.

“Surviving the Yard” takes place in Melcher Hall at the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business, 4800 Calhoun 77004. Volunteers are welcome as well. For more information and to sign up, visit this website: www.haulyp.org/young-professionals-university/
