HISD schools receive TEA reward designations

The Texas Education Agency has recognized two dozen HISD schools for high performance and/or high progress for the 2014-2015 school year based on 2013-2014 student performance results.

Sixteen HISD schools were included on the agency’s list of Title I High Performing Schools and eight schools were named as Title I High Progress schools. All eight of the High Progress schools were also recognized as High Performing schools.  Title I schools are defined as campuses with a student population of at least 40 percent low-income.

A high-performing reward school is identified as a Title I school with distinctions based on reading and math performance, as well as the highest graduation rates at the high school level.

A high-progress reward school is identified as a Title I school in the top 25 percent in annual improvement and/or a school in the top 25 percent of those demonstrating ability to close performance gaps.

“We believe all students can be successful, and they all deserve access to innovative curriculum, technology, and resources that will help them succeed,” said HISD Superintendent Terry Grier.  “The schools on this list are doing a great job and making a true impact on the lives of their students.”

For the 2014-2015 school year, a total of 192 Texas schools were recognized as high performance schools, and 218 were recognized as high progress schools. For a complete list of high performing and high progress schools in HISD, see below.
