Classes start on Monday, Aug. 24, but just a few days before that, HISD’s Homeless Education Office will help you get your child ready to go back to school.
The office is hosting a Back-to-School Extravaganza from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, at Bethel’s Place Empowerment Center (12660 Sandpiper, 77035).
Families will be able to get free backpacks, school supplies, shoes, and health screenings for their children. Students will also be able to get free immunizations, but they’ll need their shot records to do that. The Houston Food Bank will also be on hand to distribute fresh produce, and the Houston Police Department will provide digital fingerprinting.
Please note that children do not need to be homeless to take advantage of this event.
