Over 230 WOW! cards were submitted for the drawing from the departments of HISD Police, Transportation, Nutrition Services, Construction and Facility Services, and Business Assistance. In order to be entered in the drawing, an employee must be recognized by a supervisor or another employee for spreading the message of promoting a safe and caring learning environment while improving the customer service experience for students, parents, staff and community members.
“As operation departments, our duty is to make sure everything is running smoothly for our children,” said HISD Senior Business Analyst Priscilla Martinez. “Our district’s operations departments are our ‘behind the scenes’ team—that’s why we love the idea of the WOW! cards, because they are a vital part of this organization, and this gives them the recognition that shows we appreciate you.”
HISD Risk Management Trainer Donald Broome, who also serves as a Service Excellence trainer, says he enjoys coaching employees through training and encourages them to do the same by showing leadership and strong communication every day across the school district.
“Showing appreciation brings the best out in an employee,” Broom said. “I use this method every day and I pass this on to employees from my Risk Management and Safety profession.”
Four winners were chosen at random and received a ‘Dinner for Two coupon, courtesy of HISD Catering Services. Recipients can have the prize delivered to their work location to take home for dinner or to share with a co-worker for lunch during the day. The coupon is valid for any day the winner chooses before the holiday break.
