Trustee to host Family Learning Academy on emerging career opportunities Feb. 27

HISD Board of Education Member Rhonda Skillern-Jones has partnered with the Family and Community Engagement and Linked Learning Departments to host the District II Family Learning Academy on emerging career opportunities.

The free event will take place from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at Washington High School (119 East 39th Street, 77018), and will connect families with resources to help parents engage in their children’s education.

The event will feature a panel of administrators, community leaders, and representatives from HISD departments, as well as workshops and a community resource fair with information for parents.

“The education of our children doesn’t stop when they graduate,” said Trustee Skillern-Jones. “It is our job to ensure our students leave HISD schools with the tools they need to enter college, or start a career in a field that interests them. We want to make sure parents are aware of all the programs HISD has to offer that connect what our kids learn in the classroom to the jobs they will have when they graduate.”

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Translation will be available. The event will also feature door prizes and free drawings. For more details, please visit www.houstonisd.org/FLA or call the HISD Family and Community Engagement Department at 713-556-7290.
