HISD names new Officer of Business Logistics & Transportation

Alexis Licata

Houston ISD Chief Operating Officer Brian Busby has selected Alexis Licata to be the district’s new Officer of Business Logistics & Transportation.

Licata has served as general manager of the Office of Business Assistance for nine years, where she was responsible for the district’s risk management, supplier diversity, and warehouse services. She began her career with HISD in 1998 as a member of the HISD Nutrition Services Department.

In her new role, Licata is responsible for about 1,600 employees and a $45 million budget across the areas of transportation, fleet operations, logistics (previously warehouse services), textbooks, risk management, furniture services and supplier diversity.

“Alexis brings a successful track record of ensuring efficiency and bottom-line results in those lines of business that help support our students and staff,” Busby said. “She is an excellent steward of taxpayer resources while keeping excellent customer service at the forefront of everything she does. HISD is lucky to have her.”

Licata is a product of HISD schools, having graduated from Bellaire High School. She earned her master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Houston.

“I am very excited to take on an expanded role here at HISD,” Licata said. “Nothing is more important than the work that gets done in the classroom, and my team is dedicated to supporting academics, whether it’s providing on-time transportation or getting textbooks to the schools. My team is also committed to working with our business community to achieve the goals put forth by the Board of Education with our supplier diversity program.”

As part of an effort to improve bus service for HISD students, Licata has named Timothy Brown as the new general manager of transportation. Under her leadership, he will be responsible for overseeing almost 1,200 bus drivers and attendants who transport some 38,000 HISD students each day.

He comes to HISD after working most recently for GE Power Services, where he served as senior parts services staff manager. He previously worked for HISD as a distribution manager for the central warehouse.

Brown, who started Monday, is located at the Northwest Transportation Center.
