Facilities Services completes cleaning, renovation work for new school year

HISD’s Facilities Services department has spent the summer working on projects designed to repair, renovate, and enhance school learning environments for returning students.

The custodial staff began their work immediately following the last day of school. At all schools, the team conducted a deep cleaning that included cleaning windows, walls and vents, removing graffiti, and disinfecting all areas.

The maintenance team completed preventative maintenance of all major equipment and made both major and minor renovations to several campuses.

Some schools got site specific updates. At the Welch Middle School campus, Facilities Services crews worked alongside Construction Services staff to update existing temporary buildings so they could host Braeburn Elementary School students and staff while their original facility is rebuilt as a result of damage sustained from Hurricane Harvey.

At Woodson PK-5 Leadership Academy, classrooms were renovated and modified to accommodate a growing pre-kindergarten program. The school transitioned over the summer from a pre-kindergarten through eighth grade campus to a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade academy. Work also was done at Thomas Middle School to accommodate the incoming middle school students previously assigned to Woodson.

Additionally, new parking lots were added to Burbank and Windsor Village elementary schools.
