Project Explore welcomes new students with virtual orientations

More than 800 students attended virtual orientations for HISD’s Project Explore program, which helps middle school students in underserved areas across the district.

As schools continue to navigate social distancing and virtual learning, Project Explore onboarded more than 800 new members to the program from 28 middle schools. Project Explore advisors held orientations with their new members and their families online.

Students and families were given information on opportunities and resources available, as well as the expectations of Project Explore. Students met their advisor and were able to ask questions about the program.

Project Explore connects students to college and career opportunities through college and industry field trips. Due to the ongoing pandemic, field trips are on pause but students are able to get the same experiences online.

Some of the virtual field trips that students have experienced are Texas Tech University, University of Houston, Louisiana State University, and Blue Bell Creameries. In addition, students have heard from politicians, national recording artists, healthcare workers, and others.
