Library Services announces summer reading programs and resources

As summer break approaches, the Houston Independent School District Library Services department is announcing its summer reading programs and resources.

HISD encourages all students to participate in a summer reading program to prevent summer learning loss and stay engaged while out of school. Library Services is working with a trio of partners to ensure access to books for all HISD students.

Houston Public Library (HPL)

Students will earn a book just for signing up, and at each prize level they will earn another book and a badge to show off their success.  Students can earn even more prizes through weekly drawings and can participate in multiple in-person and virtual activities geared just for kids and teens.  There are prizes for the whole family too, so get everyone reading this summer!  Register, Read and Reap the Rewards houstonlibrary.org/fun.

myON

Students can participate in a customized reading challenge setup by each campus. Students simply have to login to myON through the HUB-Digital Resources to access and automatically log their reading. More can be found at bit.ly/HISDMYON.

Scholastic

The Scholastic Summer Reading program offers kids an exciting, free, and safe summer reading experience, while helping to provide books to kids with limited or no access over the summer, keeping every child reading. From April 26 through September 3, kids can visit the summer zone in Scholastic Home Base.
