To recognize the importance of eliminating pandemic-related learning loss, the HISD is doubling extra-duty pay for teachers providing academic tutorials for students.

Effective the week of Nov. 1, 2021, the extra-duty pay for teachers providing academic tutorials will increase from $25 to $50 per hour. The extra-duty pay rate for non-tutorial tasks will remain $25 per hour.

“We hope that this increase will encourage more of our highly qualified teachers to become academic tutors,” said HISD Superintendent Millard House.  “Teachers play a critical role in ensuring students’ academic success, and we hope this change emphasizes the district’s commitment to compensating teachers for the additional hours needed to accelerate student learning.”

In addition to teachers, other instructional staff such as literacy coaches and Dyslexia Interventionists are eligible for the academic tutorial extra-duty pay rate if selected by their principals.
