Janet Orozco has been selected as the new principal of Jones Futures Academy. Orozco began her educational career 15 years ago in Sheldon ISD where she was recognized as Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2009 and Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2014.
Orozco’s leadership experience in HISD includes serving as a Teacher Development Specialist, Assistant Principal at R.P Harris Elementary School and Austin High School. Most recently, she served as the Dean of Instruction at East Early College High School for four years where she supported students as they embarked on rigorous course loads with HCC to satisfy an Associates of Arts Degree. Orozco is a native from Michoacán, Mexico raised in Houston’s East End. She most recently served as the principal at Ripley House Charter. During her tenure, she focused on advocating for the community and building systematic instructional delivery. She graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a BA in Social Science and the University of St. Thomas with a Master’s in Educational Leadership.
