Anthony Infante is a third grade teacher at Pugh Elementary School and this week’s HISD Star Educator. Infante has been a teacher for four years and was instrumental in the transformation of Pugh as one of the first schools to transition to HISD’s New Education System (NES).

Infante is described by Pugh principal Keith Garcia as a person with “star quality” whose dedication for excellence is contagious. Infante prioritizes structure and positive reinforcement in his classroom. 

A former Pugh student himself, Infante was one of the first graduates of Teach Forward Houston, a special teaching program developed by HISD in partnership with the University of Houston. The program helped to kickstart his teaching career and set him up for success teaching in the district that fostered his love for learning.

Infante says his students are thriving as he employs NES techniques that leave them feeling encouraged and excited.

Favorite subject in school: Math.

Favorite book: The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. I’m huge on energy and motivating others. 

Favorite thing about Houston: The diversity. I’m a people person and living in Houston has allowed me to connect with people of all walks of life. I enjoy making connections. 

Goal for your students and staff this upcoming school year: I hope our students and staff find the intrinsic motivation to continuously improve. Whether that through student achievement or their instruction, if we have a growth mindset, the only way is forward! We did amazing last year, but we can’t stop now. Let’s work!
