HISD to host hiring event for Special Education Teacher Assistants

The HISD Talent Acquisition Team will host a Special Education Teacher Assistant Hiring Event on Thursday, September 26, from 5-7 p.m. concurrently at two separate locations: 

North and Central Division campuses: Northside High School, 1101 Quitman Street, 77009

South and West Division campuses: Madison High School, 13719 White Heather Drive, 77045

As a district, HISD strives to be the premier source of providing quality instruction and services to students and parents. As a special education teacher assistant/paraprofessional, you play a crucial role in supporting students’ learning by assisting teachers in achieving academic goals. Your responsibilities include working with small groups of students, supervising them in various educational settings, and providing assistance with instructional planning and preparation.

Starting salaries

  • NES Special Education Paraprofessional: $35,000 
  • Non-NES SPED Teacher Assistant: $25,204 

Requirements: 

  1. Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university OR 
  2. A minimum of 48 semester college hours from an accredited college or university OR 
  3. High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency AND pass the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) – verifying knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.   4. Clear criminal background check

If you have not yet submitted an online application for our district-wide teacher assistant position, please do so and complete the SSN verification step (sent via email after your application submission) before arriving.
