The Moran Norris Foundation is treating 150 students from six HISD middle schools to a shopping spree on Friday, May 8, 2015, at Target South Central, 6500 South Main, 77025.
In the “Shopping for Good Character” program, students from Cullen, Dowling, McReynolds, Marshall, and M.C. Williams middle schools, as well as Woodson Leadership Academy, were selected by their teachers for excellent attendance, great character, and the ability to make good choices. Each student receives $100 to purchase items for themselves and family members. They are also treated to lunch, courtesy of the foundation.
The Moran Norris Foundation was founded by Moran Norris and his wife Tamara, both of whom are assisting students with their purchases.
As an added bonus, 60 participating students will be selected by the schools to write an essay on how their involvement with the Moran Norris Foundation’s “Shopping for Good Character” has impacted their lives. One essay winner from each campus will receive an Apple iPad and an invitation to attend the foundation’s “Follow Me to the Stars” benefit dinner on June 27, 2015, at the JW Marriott Houston Downtown.
The Moran Norris Foundation is also sponsoring a sports and agility camp for high school athletes on May 26, 2015, when six scholarships will be awarded to student athletes from Yates and Madison high schools. In addition, the foundation is sponsoring a “Follow Me” art mural project at six HISD elementary schools with New York-based artist Fernando Romero.
