The Houston Independent School District Police Department is celebrating National Night Out by giving crime a going-away party on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.
HISD Police are hosting the “Giving Crime a Going-Away Party” at their department headquarters at 3500 Tampa St., 77021. The community is invited to celebrate with free food and drinks, music, games, and prizes. Several law enforcement agencies, as well as fire-safety and health vendors, will be on hand to meet with the community.
Celebrated across America, National Night Out was created to generate support from the community and send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organizing to fight back.
The goals of National Night Out include heightening crime and drug-prevention awareness, generating support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, and strengthening neighborhood spirit and police–community partnerships.
Most of the U.S. celebrates this event on the first Tuesday of August, but Texans celebrate on the first Tuesday in October.
For additional information about National Night Out or to join the event, call Lt. Guadalupe Jimenez or Sgt. Dwight Moore at 713-842-3715.
